A deal worth US$200 million for State carrier Caribbean Airlines to buy nine new aircraft is going ahead as planned, the European company manufacturing the planes said yesterday.

Dismissed Caribbean Airlines chief executive Capt Ian Brunton completed negotiations for the plane sale, which received Cabinet approval in September, between the local airline and the ATR company based in southern France.

Persons working in health care in Barbados are being called upon to do better to prevent and manage the prevalence of diabetes.

This call has come from Health Minister Donville Innis, who says that health officials are continuing to come to terms with the number of diabetic cases in Barbados which he says stands at approximately 16,000.

Chief Immigration Officer, Erine Griffith, says with effect Wednesday December 1st there will be an increase in all fees at the Immigration Department.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says despite the elections are just a mere two weeks away his administration is making progress with the construction of the Argyle International Airport.

The Prime Minister has held recent discussions with the General Manager of the Taiwanese Construction Company, Peter Chen to conclude the agreement to construct the Terminal Building at the Airport.

He says all is in place for the construction of the terminal building.

The Canada Revenue Authority (CRA) has confirmed that Barbados insurance companies including Exempt Insurance Companies (EIC) and Qualifying Insurance Companies (QIC) are "liable to tax" under paragraph IV (1) of the 1980 Barbados-Canada Double Taxation Agreement and can generate exempt earnings under Part LIX of Canada's Income Tax Regulations.
