Finance minister Audley Shaw, has tabled the first supplementary estimates in parliament showing that the Government was now planning to spend $503.7 billion dollars this financial year.
In a juggling act, the Government will be cutting just over $2 billion from the recurrent side of the budget while adding $1.7 billion to the capital side.
The Government is also banking on net savings of $6 billion as a result of the Jamaica Debt Exchange (JDX).
A little less than $1.4 billion is also to be transferred from the Ministry of Finance’s contingency provisions to meet payments of arrears in salaries to certain public sector groups.
The Ministry of Transport and Works will receive an additional $1.5 billion to deal with the effects of Tropical Storm Nicole.
